    Fame, Fame Fatal Fame

I just got done tralling my regular online news outlets and was slightly worried after reading Morrissey spent the night in hospital after an onstage collapse.  Shit, I thought, hope he's alright.  To be honest, I've found alot of his recent work rather dissapointing and as a result haven't even bothered with much of it but Christ, I don't know if I could handle another of my musical heroes pegging it so soon.  Sources have it he's on the mend but nevertheless, the report had me startled.

No more however than the claims that the audience who witnessed Morrissey falling to his knees, struggling to breathe, then being unceremoniously carted off by his bandmates BOOED him as he exited the stage.  Apparently Morrissey has been dissapointing ticket holders of late by cancelling shows citing ill health, leaving fans wanting not to mention out of pocket.   I use the term "fans" loosely, in that while I will admit I haven't bought the last two Morrissey albums let alone stood in line to attend one of his concerts, but if I ever did and then saw the poor sod keel over I'd be rather concerned, not annoyed that he's unable to perform.  According to one report, it was a case of 'here we go again' for some fans, who have previously endured last minute tour cancellations and re-scheduling.  So, wouldn't the sight of Morrissey slumping to the floor like a bag of bricks actually put pay to the year long claim of sickness? Wouldn't the more reasonable reaction be 'Shit, did you see that? He must really be sick! I kinda feel bad about slagging him now' instead of 'For fuck sake, get up you lazy prick and stop shirking.  I paid a couple hundred pounds to see you perform 'This Charming Man' for the 5000th time and I'm not gonna be stiffed again!'

    Where's your compassion. Tossers.

    I'd say.

Would it really upset people if a singer who's spent the last 25 years insisting in his songs that he's a depressive/anxious personality turned out to be a genuinely depressive/anxious personality? With all these posers selling misery to 14 year olds, I find it rather reassuring to know that someone who has tapped into my own personal insecurities knows what he's talking about. I don't know why, but this story really got to me.

I'm glad to hear things are back in perspective for you ^ . ~ (that's my winking cat face)

I bet these are the same arseholes who would have stood around hugging each other and crying in the street with their newly purchased Smiths and Morrisey albums if he did die.

A couple weeks ago I would have said that this was just one more piece of proof that the world is going to Hell in a handbasket - it's kind of like those people (also in England) who encouraged that guy who was threatening to jump off a building to "Hurry up and do it then!" - but this week, now that things are back in perspective, I know it's just certain segments of society that have something fundamentally lacking in them.

Even if Morrisey was just "faking it" to get out of performing, there must be some reason behind it: Anxiety? Depression? Perhaps his whole life has gone to shit?
